Active Listening and Ear Training
Do you ever wonder how musicians can immediately start playing along to songs they hear without needing sheet music?
Although it may seem like a gift some people are born with, chances are, they’ve done a lot of their learning through active listening.
We believe everyone can develop this skill.
An excellent way to get started is by participating in the Sunday reCHORDit.
Like the Sunday Crossword, we offer a weekly puzzle in the form of a song. Here’s how it works:
- We announce a new song every Sunday.
- We provide a template with lyrics and clues (including the key signature and the chords used).
- We listen daily for song structure, rhythms, melody lines, chords, and more. Work at your own level!
- Follow along and participate in our group discussion on Discord.
At the end of the week, we’ll share the “Answer Key,” a completed lyric and chord chart.
In just a few weeks, you’ll notice you are listening to music differently. You’ll start picking up on details you never would have heard before, and feel more connected to the songs you know and love!
