Standard notation is the end, not the beginning

“There is way more to making music than following someone else’s final decisions.”

Writing music in standard notation is the final stage of the creative process. It's my least favorite activity because I have to make a lot of final decisions about what I'm going to put on paper.

I find it much more satisfying and enjoyable to entertain all the options while developing a musical idea.

Still, I write (although I may never play it the same way twice).

At popMATICS, we don't put much effort into teaching you how to read. Instead, we focus on creating, listening, understanding, and writing. Because if you can write it, you can read it.

And you’ll be a songwriter who can play anything you want by ear.

There is way more to making music than following someone else’s final decisions.
